Green Building Materials
Build Green carries a wide range of stable, uniform and structurally sound green building materials that minimize the impact on existing old-growth and second-growth forests. Our inventory includes plywood, oriented strand board, glu-laminated beams, I-joists and much, much more. And our green building materials are free of pollutants, such as formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
- Construction Grade Lumber – Build Green carries construction grade lumber in job lot quantities to meet industry standards for quality and performance.
- Dimensional Beams – Dimensional lumber is planed and cut to a standardized width and depth as specified in inches, such as 2 x 4 or 4 x 4. Dimensional beams in redwood, cedar, cypress, and Douglas fir are available from Build Green.
- Trusses – Trusses, the braces used in home construction to support the rafters in the attic space, are considered easier to install and a better solution for supporting roofs than other types of bracing.
- Decking – Green building materials for any size deck are available in redwood, cedar, cypress and mahogany. Once made solely from solid-sawn lumber, decking is now commonly made from recycled wood scrap, plastic and other material.
- Laminates and Sheet Stock – These engineered wood products are made up of multiple layers of thin wood and are typically stronger, straighter, and more uniform then regular milled lumber. They are also less likely than conventional lumber to warp, twist, bow, or shrink. The types of laminates and sheet stock available from Build Green include:
- Veneers
- Veneer faced plywood
- Melamine

- Moldings and Millwork – Build Green has two expert molders who can produce top quality architectural moldings to match your existing patterns or produce new patterns from over 550 pattern profiles. We can also edge/join (our wood only) to your specifications, plane your lumber or ours up to 30" wide, or surface sand your wood or ours up to 36" wide.
- Fire-retardant Materials – Fire retardant lumber drastically reduces the speed at which flames travel across the wood's surface. Build Green carries 100% FSC-certified fire retardant materials to comply with building codes and insurance company requirements.
- Flooring - Regular and Reclaimed – Wood is the most eco-friendly flooring material available today. Because nature's "factory" (the forest) is powered by the sun, few natural resources are consumed in the production of wood flooring. In addition, wood flooring is free of the pollutants common in other types of flooring, extremely durable, and can be easily recycled when it reaches the end of its useful life. Build Green offers a wide selection of green flooring alternatives, in stock or custom milled to your specifications, including unfinished, pre-finished and finished inlays.
